During an interview set to air on Sirius XM Monday, Trump said Jackson could have prevented the Civil War.

"I mean, had Andrew Jackson been a little later, you wouldn't have had the Civil War," Trump said. "He was a very tough person, but he had a big heart."

It's not the first time Trump has praised Jackson. Days after moving into the White House, Trump hung a portrait of the seventh president of the United States in the Oval Office and, in March, he laid a wreath on his tomb in Nashville, Tennessee.

Like Trump, Jackson promised to shake up elitism in the government, but the noted populist war hero was responsible for ruthless policies towards Native Americans, making his legacy incredibly controversial.
