Amongst the designers who are happy with PM Modi’s initiatives to give India a makeover, Lalit Dalmia is one of the most open. At the age of 36, Dalmia has excelled grandly in the art of couture. Lalit’s creations targeted to the elegant Indian women are loaded with a rich blend of traditional and exuberant modern silhouettes. Infusing design influences from Victorian, Mughal and romanticist has been a trait with the Delhi-based designer.“We, designers are promoting ‘Rule our India’. People should get more work. If we create an Indian stuff, it means the rural India is getting work. And definitely we are trying hard to maximize the use of Indian fabric,” Dalmia told Business Insider.
His designs are immensely focussed on the detailing and unusual texture of fabrics. Moreover, Dalmia’s classy and reserved attitude of couture engages colours. As a designer, Dalmia ensures use of maximum Indian stuff, be it Hyderabad or Varanasi.
Co-working space for designers
“Lot of innovative designers are doing good work. However they need a lot of money to invest. Without money, they can’t have a platform. And for them, I have plans to launch a big store where incoming designers put their designs, styles and quality. We can push them to buyers and promote them through us. All I want is to give them encouragement. We are already setting of a lot of stores across metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad, which can eventually be used as a workshop for new designers who want a good platform in initial stage of business,” Dalmia told Business Insider.
