Amazon Yanks 'Ganesha' Yoga Pants After Offending Hindus

Amazon has pulled two pairs of pants from its website because they offended Hindus.

"Ganesha's Dream Hot Pant" and "Ganesha's Dream Bell Bottoms" invoked the name of the Hindu god Lord Ganesha. The pants cost between $65.95 and $78.95 on Amazon.

Rajan Zed, the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, blasted Amazon for selling the pants, which are made by the activewear brand Teeki.

"Lord Ganesha was highly revered in Hinduism and was meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not to be worn around one's legs, crotch and hips," he said.

In Hinduism, Lord Ganesha is worshipped as god of wisdom and remover of obstacles, according to the Universal Society of Hinduism.

Urban Outfitters also recently landed in hot water for selling a pair of socks featuring the Hindu god. The retailer was forced to pull the $8 socks from stores and online after an outcry from the Hindu community.
