Google Street View executives might be crashing cars into buses in Indonesia and making the headlines for the wrong reasons. But in India, they are in news for the right ones. Google has entered into an alliance with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to create panoramic 360 degree views of 100 popular and famous monuments of India.

This has been done in various other countries across the globe and has proved to be fruitful for both Google and its users. Google will create virtual walkthroughs of monuments such as the Taj Mahal, the Qutub Minar and the caves of Ajanta and Ellora. The list has not been finalised yet, but the Ministry of Culture will do that soon. With this move, people from all over the country and across the world would be able to tour through those famous monuments with ease in the virtual world.

Google’s Street View Trekker will be used to create the virtual walkthroughs. The search giant has already created walkthroughs of places such as the Grand Canyon in the US and the Eiffel Tower in France. The Indian monuments will be an interesting addition for the world to watch and appreciate.
