As the NDA government is struggling to get the GST bill passed in Rajya Sabha, Infosys is already on the job.
Infosys had bagged a whopping Rs 1,380 crore contract from the government to build a technology platform for GST. Regardless of the delays in the passage of the bill, Infosys has begun its work.
"From our end, the project is going ahead as per plans - the delay in the Bill getting passed has not stalled anything. If not this session, there's every chance that the Bill will get passed in the next session. And in such a scenario, the technology framework for the GST has to be ready. So, as of now, the project is still going ahead at full steam," ET quoted an Infosys executive as saying.
Meanwhile, CEO of Goods and Services Tax Network Prakash Kumar, who was in Bengaluru, told ET they would incorporate changes, if any.
PricewaterhouseCoopers is the official consultant for this project.
The opposition led by the Congress is stalling the passage of GST in the upper house of the parliament. The bill was supposed to be passed in Winter Session but now the government has pinned hopes to next year.
