Eight people were reportedly shot in downtown Charleston, the Post and Courier reports.

Police were swarming Henrietta and Calhouns streets off Marion Square in downtown Charleston around 9pm local time, after reports of a shooting at 110 Calhoun Street - the site of the Mother Emanuel AME Church.

Police are reportedly still looking for a suspect.

Law enforcement officials say they are looking for a "21-year-old white male in a grey sweatshirt/hoodie and jeans."

It's unclear what prompted the shooting Wednesday night, but police appear to be out in full force to track down the suspect. Officials have told people to remain indoors while the search continues.
