Swiggy quickly expands its grocery delivery to 125 cities

Foodtech unicorn Swiggy has expanded its grocery delivery service to 125 cities across India. Swiggy had launched its grocery vertical in Gurugram in early February 2019, and had slowly expanded to a few other cities. But with the high demand for online grocery due to the coronavirus lockdown, Swiggy has now expanded to 125 cities.

“While the grocery and essentials category has always been a part of our long-term strategy of delivering hyperlocal convenience, we have enabled faster ramp up for the benefit of our consumers. Extending our hyperlocal delivery offering will unlock a new dimension of convenience and safety for our consumers as well as earnings for our delivery partners during these extraordinary times”, said Vivek Sunder, COO, Swiggy.

Swiggy’s expansion comes right after its rival Zomato had marked its debut in grocery with Zomato Market and expanded it to 80 cities across India.

Swiggy has partnered with brands like HUL, P&G, Godrej, Dabur, Marico, Vishal Mega Mart, Adani Wilmers, Cipla, while also delivering essentials from the local kirana stores.

Giving a tough competition to the likes of Dunzo, Swiggy is also turning its focus on hyperlocal deliveries.Swiggy has revamped its offering ‘Swiggy Go’ by launching a hyperlocal delivery service ‘Genie’ in over 15 cities. Through this service, people can order pick up and drop facilities for packages within the city.
