An employee at Barclays' New York City headquarters tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus and has been self-quarantined since last week, when the staffer learned they'd been potentially exposed to the virus.
Since learning of the employee's potential exposure to the virus on March 3, the bank has been conducting ongoing deep cleaning, a Barclays spokesman confirmed in a statement to Business Insider, and it has also asked colleagues that worked with or may have come in contact with the employee to self-quarantine.
"We can confirm that a member of our staff based in our New York trading operation has tested as positive for COVID-19," the statement said. "The health and safety of our staff, customers and clients is our top priority and we are providing every support to the member of staff and their family."
The bank said in the statement that it is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local authorities to take the appropriate precautions.
"At this stage, we are operating business as usual; we continue to monitor the situation closely and will take further action as appropriate," the statement said.
