HUL Appoints JP Morgan’s Kalpana Morparia As Independent Director

FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has appointed Kalpana Morparia, Chief Executive Officer of the Indian arm of global financial services firm, JP Morgan, on October 9, 2014. Morparia has been appointed as an independent director on the company board.

“Kalpana’s vast experience and proven track record of leadership will add tremendous value to our Board,” said Harish Manwani, Chairman of the consumer goods major.

Commenting on her appointment, Morparia said, “I am delighted to join the Board of this iconic Company. I look forward to my role as an Independent Director of one of the most respected consumer companies.”

It should be noted that Morparia is an Independent Director on the Boards of several companies including Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited, Bennett Coleman & Company Limited, Phillip Morris International Inc. and CMC Limited. She is also a member of the J. P. Morgan Asia Pacific Management Committee.

Some of her previous stints include being on the Boards of ICICI Group companies as Vice Chair. She has served the largest private sector bank as the joint managing director from 2001 to 2007.

At HUL Board, Morparia will also be a part of the audit and corporate social responsibility committees.
