India’s Covid-19 cases rise to 4861; 354 new cases and 8 dead in last 24 hours

• India now has 4,421 active cases of COVID-19 and at least 326 people have recovered, said the ministry.
  
• Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state with 748 active cases followed by Tamil Nadu which has 621 cases, while Delhi has 523.
  
• 79 personnel including doctors, nurses and health workers of Nil Ratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital were sent on quarantine.

It is day fourteen of a 21-day lockdown here in India. As the country entered the critical phase of Coronavirus pandemic, the number of coronavirus cases in India crossed the 4,800 mark.

The Health Ministry in a press briefing today (April 7) said, 354 new cases, 8 deaths in last 24 hours have been registered in India.

At least 326 people have recovered from the deadly coronavirus across the country. However, 109 deaths have also been reported from different states. The total number includes 66 foreign nationals and one person who has migrated. There are now 4,421 active cases of COVID-19, said the ministry.

According to Health Ministry data, Maharashtra is the worst-hit state with 748 active cases followed by Tamil Nadu which has 621 cases, while Delhi has 523.

Kerala has 327 cases, Telangana reported 321 cases, Uttar Pradesh has 305, Rajasthan has 288 cases so far.

The Union Health Ministry said that 76% of males constitute positive coronavirus cases in the country, which indicates men are more susceptible to contract the deadly infection. Also, 86% deaths occur due to co-morbidity and young people with comorbidity are at high risk from the coronavirus infection.

According to Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary at the Health Ministry, 47% positive cases are in people below the age of 40 years, 34% cases in the age group of 40 to 60 years and 19% cases are above 60 years of age. People above 60 years account for 63% of all COVID-19 deaths.

18 corona cases in Himachal, four more Jamaatis test positive

Four more members of the Tablighi Jamaat, who returned from the congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin Markaz in March, have tested positive for the coronavirus in Himachal Pradesh, taking their total number to 11.

He said 11 swab samples of the Tablighi Jamaat members belonging to Chamba's Tissa region were collected. Out of these four tested positive on Monday (April 6).

In a stringent law, the state has made a provision to book the corona patients for an attempt to murder if they spit on someone.

"And in case any person gets infected thus and dies of COVID-19, a case of murder would be registered against the accused patient," Director General of Police S.R. Mardi said.

79 including 39 doctors of Kolkata hospital quarantined

79 personnel including doctors, nurses and health workers of Nil Ratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital were sent on quarantine, and a ward closed down on Monday (April 6) after the test results of a youth received after his death detected coronavirus positive.

The youth, who was admitted with haemophilia, was initially kept in the general ward. But as his condition began deteriorating, he was transferred to the critical care unit, where he died on Saturday.

With the youth developing Corona virus-like symptoms before his death, he was tested for the infection. The test results received on Monday (April 6), found him positive.

This sent alarm bells ringing, and the 79 personnel including 39 doctors were sent on quarantine for 14 days.

Rajasthan's corona tally passes 300 with 35 new cases

A total of 35 new corona cases have been reported in Rajasthan on Monday (April 6) taking the total number to 301, confirmed health officials here.

A 20-year-old woman who is the wife of a positive Tablighi member from Bikaner was the latest addition to the list.

The other one is a 59-year-old evacuee from Iran who is admitted in Jaisalmer.

A total of 10 cases were reported from Kota, which include a deceased who passed away on Sunday night and his nine other family members. His relatives too tested positive.

Two new cases were also reported in Tonk, out of which one is 29 year old with a history of Jamaat while the other is a 42-year-old female who is in contact with an already positive person.

Jaipur now has the highest number of Corona positive patients in Rajasthan at 100, including eight new cases reported on Monday (April 6), Bhilwara has a second-highest number which is 27, Jhunjhunu is third with 23 positives with five new patients reported on Monday (April 6), Tonk has 20 including two new cases, said additional chief secretary Rohit Kumar Singh.

Maximum testing for 15 hotspots in Gujarat, cases rise to 146

With the state's tally of COVID-19 positive cases rising to 146 on Monday (April 6), including 12 deaths, the Gujarat government has announced that maximum testing will be conducted in 15 identified hotspots under the Cluster Containment Strategy in four major cities of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Bhavnagar.

Gujarat witnessed two more positive cases and one more death on Monday (April 6) as a 65-year-old female from Vadodara succumbed to the dreaded virus. Two ladies, aged 45 and 70, were found to be positive in Surat, taking the total number of cases in the state to 146. A total of 22 persons have been discharged so far.

Health authorities have found that out of the 39 positive cases detected in the last two days, 32 were from the Muslim dominated areas where Tablighi Jamaat members had returned from a religious congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin area.

Telangana CM announces incentive for healthcare workers

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday (April 6) announced a 10% incentive on the gross salary of the employees of the Medical and Health Department as the CM's gift in recognition of their services in combating COVID-19.

The Chief Minister announced at a news conference, where he thanked all the healthcare professionals with folded hands. "I salute everyone from sweeper to the director for rendering the valuable services," he said.

The government has already announced the payment of full salary to the employees of the Medical and Health Department and Police Department in recognition of the services they are rendering in a crisis.

Odisha's COVID-19 cases rise to 40

The total positive coronavirus cases in Odisha touched 40 after a man from Kendrapara, who had returned from Dubai last month, was confirmed positive for the disease on Monday (April 6).

A 32-year-old male from Kendrapara who had returned from Dubai on March 24 is confirmed positive for COVID-19, the Health Department said in a tweet.

Out of the total positive cases, two persons have already been cured and discharged from hospital.

More staff test positive at Delhi Cancer Institute

One more doctor and 11 nursing staff at the Delhi State Cancer Institute reported positive for coronavirus on Monday (April 6).

So far, 18 staff members, including two doctors, have tested positive for the disease.

It started with one doctor being tested positive last week, followed by which the hospital was sealed for disinfection.

The first doctor got the infection from the relatives, and the nurses were tested after they came in contact with the doctor.
