US records over 55,000 new coronavirus cases, according to Reuters, surpassing April's record yet again

The number of new daily coronavirus infections in the US has for the past week regularly surpassed what had been the record since April.
On April 6, the US reported a record daily high of 43,438 new coronavirus infections, according to the CDC. That number remained the highest for months as states imposed widespread lockdown measures.
But after all 50 states began reopening their economies and easing COVID-19 restrictions, the number of new daily cases has begun to spike once again.
On June 26, the US recorded 44,602 new cases; on June 27, there were 44,703 new cases; on June 30, there were 43,644 new cases; and on July 1; there were 54,357 cases.
According to Reuters, the US recorded more than 55,000 new cases on Thursday.

Over the past seven days, the number of new daily coronavirus infections in the US has regularly surpassed what had been the record since April, according to a tally by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
On April 6, the US reported 43,438 new coronavirus infections, according to the CDC count. That number remained the highest for months, as new daily cases began to decline after widespread lockdown measures were put in place across the country.
But with all 50 states having reopened parts of their economies and eased COVID-19 restrictions, the number of new daily cases has begun to spike once again.
On June 26, the US recorded 44,602 new cases; on June 27, it recorded 44,703 new cases; on June 30, it recorded 43,644 new cases; and on July 1, it recorded 54,357 cases.
According to the AP, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in a livestream with the American Medical Association that the US was experiencing "a very disturbing week."

Fauci warned that if the US did not enforce widespread mask use and social-distancing rules, "we're going to be in some serious difficulty," AP added.
A recent study said that wearing a facial covering was "the most effective means to prevent interhuman transmission" of the coronavirus. Several states, Oregon and Nevada, have mandated that residents must wear a mask when in public.
