The buildup comes as both Ukraine and US intelligence have warned of a possible Russian invasion, a claim the Kremlin has denied.

State Department and Defense officials have said that Russia's activity is "unusual" and lacks transparency, Insider's Ryan Pickrell previously reported.

President Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin are set to speak on Tuesday, where Biden is expected to threaten the Russian president with the toughest US economic sanctions yet if there's an invasion.

Biden on Monday also spoke with the leaders of France, Germany, the UK, and Italy about a possible invasion and how to deter Russia from launching an attack.
