Lieutenant Bhavana Kasturi lead an Indian army contingent of 144 male personnel on Army Day parade in India. It is for the first time in the history of armed forces that any woman is leading. Lieutenant Haobam Bella Devi unfurled the tricolour in 2015 for then President Pranab Mukherjee. The moment was significant in the history of Indian army as the honor is traditionally marked for male officers. An all-women contingent of 154 women led by Captain Divya Ajith Kumar marched down to display ‘women power’ at Republic day during the visit of former US President Barack Obama in 2015. The 66th Republic Day also witnessed many firsts. Another feather in the cap was when all the three forces — navy, army, and the air force — marched together in an all-women contingent.
