Popeyes is offering a throwback deal on its famous fried chicken, and that means customers can get two pieces for just 59 cents.

The fast food chain announced the special offer to mark its 50th anniversary.

In 1972, founder Alvin C. Copeland Sr. opened a restaurant in New Orleans called Chicken on the Run, selling traditional Southern-fried chicken. The business struggled, so within a few months, he reopened the restaurant under the name Popeyes, after Popeye Doyle of the film "The French Connection," this time specializing in spicy, New Orleans-style chicken, according to the company website.

Popeyes took off. Back then, Popeyes sold two pieces of bone-in chicken for 59 cents. Now, the company is bringing back the deal for a week to commemorate the milestone.

To get it, customers need to first make a $5 minimum mobile order on either the Popeyes app or Popeyes.com. The deal is available from June 12 to June 19.
