Bran Castle is located in Romania, near the city of Brasov.

It was built between 1211-1388, and housed warriors, knights, and the Habsburg royal family.

Queen Marie, the last queen consort of Romania and granddaughter of Queen Victoria, and later her daughter Princess Ileana were the last owners before a Communist takeover in 1948. That's Queen Marie and Princess Ileana on the left, and Ileana by herself on the right.
Today, the castle is a huge tourist attraction with 560,000 annual visitors. Some refer to it as “Dracula’s Castle.”

And it's easy to see why — the views range from breathtaking...
...to creepy. This secret staircase was previously hidden by a fireplace. It leads out to the castle grounds.

Inside, the castle is filled with huge customized stoves to keep its residents warm, and doors that still retain their original stone work.
This is King Ferdinand's dining room. The restored paneled ceilings are gorgeous.

There are also more modest dwellings inside the castle.
This is the music room, which has been restored to feel very homey.

And here is the Biedermeier Drawing Room. Though the walls have been plastered over, the furniture offers a glimpse of what the castle once looked like.
The castle has a library and dungeons (not pictured) as well.

Like most fortresses, the castle has an open courtyard in its center.
It even has a little wishing well.

You can see some of the original stone work around this window, which looks out onto the inner courtyard.
But perhaps the most beautiful views are from the top of the castle's upper terrace.

The upper terraces have arched, open-air windows and gorgeous architecture.
You can also see the castle's round tower from here.

The property comes with extensive gardens and grounds.
This is the Tea House, a small cottage on the property where Queen Marie had her tea.

And this is known as Princess Ileana's house. A more demure home than the castle itself, it's nestled into the grounds.
One last look at Bran Castle, or Dracula's Castle.
