Police in Texas have arrested two Mexican citizens for alleged credit card fraud related to the massive data breach at Target over the holidays, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Mary Carmen Garcia Vaquera, 27, and Daniel Guardiola Dominguez, 28, allegedly used credit card data stolen from Target to spend tens of thousands of dollars on purchases at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Toys R Us and other major retailers in South Texas, Chief Victor Rodriguez of the McAllen, Texas police department said in a news conference Monday.

Police found stacks of credit cards on the suspects that matched those stolen in the Target breach, Rodriguez said.

"It quickly became obvious to us that the information about the fraudulent activity - that is, the accounts that were being used... was part of a data set that was involved in what we call now the Target data breach," Rodriguez said, according to a recording of the press conference.

Here's some of the evidence:

McAllen police had worked with the Secret Service in pursuing Vaquera and Dominguez, but a federal official contacted by The Journal later denied that there was a known connection to the Target data breach.

We have reached out to Target for comment on the arrests and will update when we hear back.
