The Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) has won 26 seats out of the total 28 seats while INC + JDS has been limited to just 2 seats. H D Deve Gowda (JD(s)) has lost the election to his BJP rival GS Basavaraju from the Turkur seat.

Almost all the exit polls suggested that BJP will over 20 seats in the current Elections, leaving the Congress and Janata Dal-Secular combine with less than half of it. This time around, BJP was predicted to bag a few more than they did, in 2014. No other party, polls predicted, will make any difference to the elections.

The 28 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state of Karnataka went for polling in two phases. While 14 seats voted on April 18 during the second phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019 across the nation, the remaining 14 constituencies for the Lok Sabha polled on April 23 when the country went for the third round of polling. During 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP recorded a highly encouraging victory from the state by winning from 17 seats in the state.

The party left the Congress with 8 seats with JD(S) elected from just 2 seats in the state. By holding the majority number of Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, the BJP is enjoying a considerable presence now. The list of candidates lined up now for the elections pose a tough battle between the BJP and Congress – JD(S) alliance.

The key candidates contesting in the 2019 general elections are Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge who won during 9 elections earlier and went to the Lok Sabha two times. He is fighting with Umesh Jadav of BJP who left the Congress recently and joined the ruling party at the center. A number of senior leaders including Baburao Chinchansur, Malka Reddy and Malikayya Guttedar in Karnataka had quit the Congress party and joined the BJP preceding the elections 2019.
