There was a time when a phone at the Rs 40,000 mark was considered as premium end. But now the definition has changed and the premium category of phones is touching the Rs 50,000 point. Today, Samsung has showcased its high-end smartphone Samsung Galaxy Note 3, targeted at business honchos and professionals. This phone comes with all the premium features including a 5.7 inch full HD display, 32 GB on-board storage, a 13 MP rear camera built around 1.9 GHz and 1.3 GHz quad-core processors. It also comes with a new and improved S Pen stylus, which has caught our attention. The phone has new animations for the stylus menu and Samsung has bettered the dual-window multitasking mode.

Along with this phone, Samsung has also unveiled the new Galaxy Gear smartwatch, which was showcased at the Berlin IFA show about 10 days ago. But currently, it is only compatible with Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 (with an app download). This watch, with a 1.6 inch touch display, is an extension of the phones and one can easily strap it to the wrist. Finally, we get to see some colour from the Samsung family as this watch will be available in 6 different colours including orange and white, among others.

Under the hood, this smartwatch has an 800 MHz processor, Bluetooth 4.0, accelerometer and 4 GB internal storage. One can receive calls and even answer them using the in-built MIC and speaker. What we found to be the most amusing feature of this watch is the 1.9 MP camera that is embedded on the top part of the strap.

Both the smartphone and the smartwatch will be available in Samsung stores after Sept 25. But at the moment, the company has them in 100 stores across Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore for users to have a look and feel of the new devices before they buy. All said, these are two good devices, but once you take a look at the exuberant price tags (Rs 49,990 for Galaxy Note 3 and Rs 22,990 for Galaxy Gear), you might not want to burn a hole in your pocket. Nevertheless, if you want to go for them straight away, you might find the EMI option attractive. Otherwise, our suggestion is to wait for the festive season and you might find a deal or two to ease things off.
