Blackstone's stock has outperformed that of all other listed private equity competitors over the last five years. The company has pushed into real estate in a big way in recent years,

The company went on a real-estate buying spree after the financial crisis, ending up as the largest private-sector landlord in America.

The list also includes long-time industry veterans who have regularly graced Forbes' list, up-and-coming leveraged-buyout pros who are still making a name for themselves, and a pair of siblings who have earned a reputation as two of the most competitive brothers in the business.
