After the comeback of old television series Ramayan and Mahabharata, many broadcasters and brands followed Doordarshan’s league. Latest in the row is Dunzo, a hyperlocal delivery start-up, trying to recreate iconic advertisements from the golden era to connect with the 90’s kids.

It reminded us of the simpler days when colour was just introduced in print advertisements and acrylic orange, blue and yellow were some of the common hues. The ad formats in the 90’s had one bright photographic image paired with a large headline and body copy.

The Google-backed Dunzo took to social media to pay an ode to a few ad gems and said, “This #ThrowbackThursday, we pay ode to the gems that ad-ed fun and fondness to our memories. So take a trip back to simpler times, and enjoy the #90sRedun.”

It cleverly initiated its #ThrowbackThursday campaign with iconic Surf’s Lalitaji, which is one of the memorable creations of Alyque Padamsee and Indian advertising industry.

Dunzo tweaked Lalitaji’s “Bhaisahab, Surf ke kharidaari mein hi samajdaari hai” to “Dunzo se kharidaari mein hi samajdaari hai. Wash your worries away with Dunzo.”

The next advertisement Dunzo ‘ad’ed’ its wit to was Fevikwik’s ‘Fish Catcher’ that was glued to our minds for a long time in the 90’s.

Refreshing our memory, Dunzo tweaked the advertisement by saying, “Chutki mein le aaye Dunzo. Sticks with us for convenience.

And who can forget Cadbury Dairy Milk's iconic cricket match ad? Dunzo gave this old gem a twist too.
