Amazon doesn’t want to miss out on India’s online retail growth story and is hiring top managers to consolidate gains and expand businesses in the country.
Amazon is hiring and poaching top executives of its rival companies, aggressively.
Recently, Amazon hired Sriraman Jagannathan, a former Citibanker, for leading its payments business.
It had also hired McKinsey partner Sameer Khetarpal for special initiatives for sellers, Aparna Batra for heading accessories category.
Moreover, Amazon also poached Jabong's Puneet Gupta to head sales and marketing for fashion, food and grocery.
As per Goldman Sachs, India's ecommerce market is expected to triple to $68.8 billion by fiscal year 2020.
"Amazon is far more experimental in hiring compared to its competitors. Given that (its) processes and global experience are so strong, (the company) can help people from different backgrounds be successful,” Ashish Sanganeria, of executive search firm Longhouse told ET.
