Karnataka government to reopen all graduate, engineering and diploma colleges from November 17

The Karnataka government has decided to reopen all graduate, engineering and diploma colleges for students after Diwali celebrations, from November 17, according to Higher education Minister Dr Ashwath Narayan.


According to media reports, offline classes will be optional for students and if they choose to attend they will have to submit consent forms signed by parents. Classes will be held in a ‘blended’ manner — constituting both online and offline lessons. Moreover, a task force will be deployed at each district and at all college levels.

The decision was taken after Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Deputy CM Ashwath Narayan held a meeting today with educational experts and Department officials, over the reopening of Pre-university colleges.The government is yet to take a decision on public universities or schools.

Earlier this week, Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan told the media that they are preparing to re-open colleges for UG and PG students from next month. . He said that the Centre has already issued the guidelines for reopening schools and colleges and preparations were afoot.

Schools and colleges in Karnataka have been shut since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the extension of the nationwide lockdown. The classes for all the students are being conducted online.
