Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks was diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 12. Hanks was at The Gold Coast, Australia for the production of Baz Luhrmann’s untitled film on Elvis Presley. He was playing the role of Colonel Tom Park, Presley’s manager.

In his career spreading over three decades, Hanks played several diverse characters in movies like Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, Bachelor Party, Saving Private Ryan, along with voicing Toy Story.

Thousands of people and celebrities started pouring in messages as soon as the news broke. One of the Twitter users wrote, “No, not Tom Hanks.”

Actor and producer Rita Wilson — also the wife of Tom Hanks — tested positive along with Hanks. "We Hanks' will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires,” the couple said in a statement.

The 63-year old acted in many movies including Volunteers, Sleepless in Seattle, Now and Then, Runaway Bridge and It’s Complicated among others. She also played the role of ruthless New York lawyer in a recurring role in the series The Good Wife. She also produced succesful films like My Big Fat Greek Wedding in 2002.

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, tested positive for coronavirus on March 12 after she showed flu-like symptoms. While PM Trudeau has quarantined himself, he won’t be tested as he has shown no symptoms. According to CNN, the Trudeaus will keep themselves isolated for 14 days.

Sophie Trudeau is a former news anchor and is a crusader for gender equality and children’s issues.

The head coach of Arsenal Football Club, Mike Arteta, tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

According to media, several people including athletes, coaches and other members of the academy, established close contact with him. Arsenal’s entire first-team squad has been instructed to self-isolate.

Another football club in London, Chelsea FC too went into self-imposed isolation after one its team player Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for coronavirus. The team was set to play at Aston Villa but the match is most likely to be delayed.

United Kingdom’s junior Health minister Nadine Dorries

UK’s junior Health Minister Nadine Dorries was diagnosed with coronavirus on March 11. There is no information on how she got in contact with the virus but she started feeling unwell after an event with the prime minister. The UK is planning to test other health ministers. UK’s Labour MP Rachel Maskell is also kept under isolation.

Dorries is a Conservative politician serving the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care since last year.


A player from Utah Jazz, NBA
The NBA has decided to suspend the season indefinitely after a player of Utah Jazz — an American basketball team — tested positive for coronavirus. The decision came after the Oklahoma City Thunder's clash with the Utah Jazz was postponed, just moments before tip-off at Chesapeake Energy Arena on March 13. However, the name of the player who tested positive has not been revealed.
