Badarpur State assembly constituency of Delhi comes under the jurisdiction of the South Delhi parliamentary seat. The present five year term of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha will end on 22 February 2020 and hence the 70 constituencies of the Delhi assembly will go for general elections in February 2020 along with Badarpur.

In 2015 elections for the Delhi assembly it was AAP candidate Narayan Dutt Sharma who won the seat of Badarpur. In this election, he scored 94,242 and overtook the BJP candidate Ramvir Singh Bidhuri who scored 46,659 votes. In 2013 elections, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri fought on behalf of the BJP and won the INC candidate Ram Singh Netaji. So far, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri has become MLA from this seat three times representing different parties and as an independent candidate. Ram Singh Netaji went to the assembly from this seat during two elections.

In 1993 elections, JD candidate Ramvir Singh Bidhuri scored 22,102 votes and defeated the INC candidate Ram Singh Netaji. In 1998 elections, the winner was Ram Singh Netaji who got 40,548 votes and overtook the INC candidate Ramvir Singh Bidhuri. In this election, Ram Singh Netaji fought as an independent candidate not representing any party. In 2003 elections, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri contested on behalf of NCP and scored 40,224 votes. He was announced as the winner against the INC candidate Ram Singh Netaji. IN 2008 elections, Ram Singh Netaji won representing BSP getting 53,416 votes. His opponent and the runner up of INC Ramvir Singh got 40,111 votes and lost the elections.
