Dwarka state assembly constituency occurs within the precincts of South West Delhi parliamentary seat of Delhi. In this seat, there are 1,99,068 voters in total comprising of 1,13,006 males, 86,055 females and 7 third gender voters. The present ruling term of the Vidhan Sabha will end on 22 February 2020. Hence, Dwarka assembly seat will go for general elections in February 2020 as part of the 70 seats in the Delhi assembly. The upcoming elections will decide the MLAs who will represent these seats in the new assembly that will be formed post elections. Dwarka is a general seat without any reservations open for all candidates to contest.

Dwarka went for assembly elections last time in 2015. In this election, the AAP candidate was the winner who defeated the BJP candidate. In 2015 elections, Adarsh Shastri of AAP got 79729 votes and defeated the BJP candidate Parduymn Rajput who got 40363 votes. The vote margin between them was 39366 votes.

Earlier, Parduymn Rajput had become the MLA of this seat two times. In both these elections, he represented the BJP and became the MLA. In the 2013 general elections, he scored 42734 votes and defeated the AAP candidate Ravi Kumar Suryan. The Dwarka seat also saw the by elections in 2009 within a year after the 2008 general elections were conducted. During the by elections, BJP’s Parduymn Rajput scored 35891 votes and defeated INC’s Tilotma Chodhary who got 24526 votes. In 2008 elections, Mahabal Mishra was the winner. She got 43,608 votes and the runner up candidate of this election was BJP’s Pradyuman Rajput who scored 29,627 votes.
