These five COVID-19 hit states account for 61% of total cases in the country

With 89,706 infections reported in a day, India's COVID-19 tally of cases has crossed the 43 lakh mark. Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 73,890 with 1,115 people succumbing to the disease in 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am today (September 9) showed. According to the Ministry of Health, five states have contributed 61% of the total active cases. Maharashtra has contributed more than 20,000 and Andhra Pradesh more than 10,000 cases. On the other hand, 74,894 patients recovered from COVID-19 in 24 hours, according to the ministry's data updated at 8 am.

At present, there are nearly 9 lakh active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Maharashtra has been the worst-hit COVID-19 state in India. It has over 200,000 active cases. In the last 24 hours, it added 6517 cases. About 13,234 COVID-19 patients recovered, and 380 died. Pune has recorded 2.03 lakh COVID-19 cases.

“We were able to contain the number of cases between March and May, but it does not seem like the pandemic will be conquered in the near future,” CM Uddhav Thackeray.
