That is according to a new report by Global Finance Magazine, which lists the best global banks in 12 different categories.

The categories include: corporate bank, consumer bank, emerging markets, investment bank and trade finance.

The magazine based its ranking on a range of criteria including performance over the past year, reputation and management excellence. The selections were made after a number of consultations with bankers, corporate financial executives and analysts.

The magazine's publisher and editorial director, Joseph D. Giarraputo, said that the banks had distinguished themselves amid capricious markets.

"With volatile global markets and a strong US dollar changing the global economic playing field, these banks are ahead of the game-continuously investing in best of breed solutions and staff to outperform their peers and provide superior service to clients," Giarraputo said.
