OnePlus is revamping the design of its next smartphone to make it look and feel more premium than the One, a source familiar with the situation told Business Insider.

The next OnePlus phone, rumored to be called the OnePlus 2, will likely have a metal frame unlike the current OnePlus One which has a polycarbonate back.

This also means the phone will be more expensive than the $300 OnePlus One, although our source said that these plans haven't been finalized just yet.

Our source also cited the metal frame as being one example of how the new OnePlus phone would be more premium than the last, although we haven't heard any other specific details.

Back in November, a source told us that there will be "surprises" in store when it comes to hardware. It's possible that this source was also referring to a new metal design. Although our source tells us the new model will probably be more expensive than OnePlus One, our source from November said it's still likely to be cheaper than most off-contract flagship phones.

The OnePlus One was incredibly popular in 2014 for two main reasons - it's cheap, and it was difficult to find. The OnePlus One comes with hardware that's comparable to phones made by Samsung, but it costs about half the price. While the OnePlus starts at $300, an off-contract Galaxy phone could cost $600.

The phone was also pretty difficult to get your hands on for quite some time. You can now order it from OnePlus' website every Tuesday, but previously you could only order it if you had an invite from someone else who owned the phone. That system is still in place, but OnePlus has since opened up sales one a week.

OnePlus confirmed that it's making a new phone back in September during an "Ask Me Anything" thread on Reddit, but the company hasn't offered any details since then.
