Microsoft may have dropped a big hint about how much its crazy holographic computer will cost

Microsoft just showed off its new holographic computer, appropriately named the HoloLens, at its developer event in San Francisco on Wednesday. It was the most thorough HoloLens demo Microsoft has shown yet, but there's still a lot we don't know about the device - including its price.

But an unnamed Microsoft exec told The New York Times said that it would cost significantly more than a game console.

This means the HoloLens could cost several hundred dollars for consumers. Gaming consoles aren't cheap - the Xbox One usually sells for $400 through Microsoft's online store, but it's on sale for $350. The Playstation 4 also costs $400.

That's still cheaper than the Explorer Edition of Google Glass, which Google sold to developers and other select "explorers" for $1,500 before ending its Explorer program.

The Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 also sells for $350, which is much cheaper than how much the HoloLens will probably cost.
