Norway loves electric cars

Now that Tesla and a few other early movers have proven there's demand for electric cars, it seems like every other car company is jumping onto the trend - Audi, BMW, Porsche, even Aston Martin have all recently joined the fray, not to mention Apple's rumored "Project Titan" electric car.

But who's buying them? Norwegians, it turns out. Based on data from IHS Automotive, charted here for us by Statista, electric and plug-in hybrids made up almost 23% of new vehicle registrations in Norway in the first quarter of 2015. The Netherlands also topped 5%. In every other country, electric cars are around 1% or less.

So why Norway? Mostly tax incentives - Norway exempts electric vehicles from all recurring taxes, which makes them cost the same as gasoline-powered cars there.
