Camila Mendes defended her "Riverdale" costars amid allegations of sexual assault during her appearance on a SiriusXM show Tuesday.
"It's so insane to me that somebody would do such a thing, to prove a point. It seems so trivial," Mendes said on "The Jess Cagle Show."
"Like, oh really, you went to that extent? To damage not only the integrity of the #MeToo movement, but to potentially damage the careers of these people and their lives?" Mendes continued.
"It's so backwards to me," she said. "I feel for my castmates who had to deal with that."
The accusations against Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, Vanessa Morgan, and KJ Apa went viral over the weekend, but subsequent tweets from the original accounts suggested that the claims were fabricated.

Camila Mendes defended her "Riverdale" costars who've been accused of sexual assault during her appearance on a Sirius XM show on Tuesday.
Speaking to host Jess Cagle, Mendes called the entire thing "so trivial."
"It's so insane to me that somebody would do such a thing, to prove a point. It seems so trivial," the actress explained.
Mendes appeared to be referencing the fact that one of the accounts that originally shared the allegations (which accused Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, Vanessa Morgan, and KJ Apa of sexual assault and rape) later posted tweets seemingly admitting that they fabricated the stories.
"You went to that extent? To damage not only the integrity of the #MeToo movement, but to potentially damage the careers of these people and their lives?" Mendes said on the SiriusXM show. "To do that in order to make a point about how easily people believe things, it's so backwards to me."
"I feel for my castmates who had to deal with that," she concluded.
Screenshots from various Twitter users appeared to show several anonymous accounts sharing accusations of sexual abuse against Sprouse, Reinhart, Morgan, and their fellow "Riverdale" costar KJ Apa.
The accusations leveled against the stars ranged from rape to groping and sexual harassment, but users also shared screenshots of a subsequent tweet by one of the accusers, appearing to admit that the allegations were fabricated.
