India Amongst The 4 New Countries That Can Supply Paid Content Via Google Newsstand

This is great news for Indian Publishers. Google has added four countries to the Newsstand app using which the users can buy subscriptions of newspaper and magazines. Apart from India, Russia, Netherlands and Spain were also added to the system.
The Newsstand applications is available for free on Android phones. However, select Indian publishers can stream paid content through Google Newsstand to the app users. Indiatimes, NDTV, Hindustan Times and few more are amongst the first few content players to give paid content to consumers. The list should expand in the coming weeks as more Indian publishers come and apply.
The news of India being added right after Android One launch in the country means that the country is high on Google’s to tap and priority list. India has over 1 billion people and large untapped social, mobile and media market. Google would want to have a strong holding here as they are banned in most parts of China, who also have over a billion people. Plus 65% of the India population is young, the right kind of audience for Google.
We would not be surprised if more such services and applications are launched or are made for India by the internet giant in the near future.
