3-month insurance cover to Maha gram sevaks for COVID-19 fight
Mumbai, Apr 8 () The Maharashtra government hasdecided to give Rs 25 lakh insurance cover for three months togram sevaks and gram vikas adhikari (village developmentofficers) for fighting against COVID-19.

The government has already offered this kind ofprotection to anganwadi staffers and Asha (accredited socialhealth activist) workers.

Maharashtra Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrifsaid in a statement that gram sevaks and gram vikas adhikariattached to gram panchayats, and computer operators workingunder the 'Aaple Sarkar Sewa Kendra' (Our Government ServiceCentres) will also be brought under the insurance cover.

The government, in its circular dated March 31, hadannounced insurance cover to the anganwadi staffers, Ashaworkers and gram panchayat staffers.

"These people are working round-the-clock to containthe spread of the coronavirus and guiding the suspectedpatients. The staffers working at the rural-level riskingtheir lives are nothing but soldiers in the fight against thevirus," the statement quoted Mushrif as saying.

The minister noted that the Centre has offered Rs 50lakh insurance cover to health workers, who are fightingagainst the disease.

Mushrif said that in the rural areas, the anganwadistaffers, Asha workers and gram panchayat staffers too arefighting against the disease.

"The decision has been expanded to cover gram sevaksand gram vikas adhikari and computer operators too," he added.

Mushrif said that the government has already decidedto give additional Rs 1,000 above their regular salaries toanganwadi staffers, Asha workers and gram panchayat staffers. ENMNP NP
