Dhanteras is an important festive event in many parts of India. It is observed on the thirteenth day of the waning phase of the moon (called Krishna Paksha) in the month of Ashwin as per the Hindu calendar (October–November).

This year, Dhanteras falls on Friday, November 10. Usually, Dhanteras is celebrated two days before Diwali.
