Maha: Marshals deployed in Thane slums to enforce lockdown
Thane, May 7 () The civic body in Maharashtra'sThane city has deployed marshals in slums and congestedlocalities to ensure proper enforcement of the COVID-19lockdown, an official said on Thursday.

It was observed that residents of slums and congestedlocalities were blatantly defying the lockdown and were notpractising social distancing, deputy municipal commissionerSandeep Malavi said.

As many as 250 marshals were deployed in suchlocalities to keep vigil and ensure proper enforcement of thelockdown norms, he said, adding that the number will beincreased if need be.

The Thane Municipal Corporation has also revoked itsearlier order that allowed shops selling non-essentialcommodities to function, Malavi said.

The decision was taken after some shops defied certainnorms mentioned in the order, he added.

Meanwhile, municipal commissioner Vijay Singhal hasordered distribution of homeopathic and Ayurvedic medicines asspecified by the Ayush Ministry at slums and congestedlocalities of the city, the official said. CORARU ARU
