Last time, the general elections for the assembly of Delhi was held in 2015 in the Wazirpur constituency and in this election, AAP candidate Rajesh Gupta secured a thumping victory by overtaking the runner up candidate of BJP’s Mahander Nagpal. Rajesh Gupta’s vote score was 61208 while Mahander Nagpal bagged 39164 votes. The vote margin between the two was 22044.


The legislative assembly seat of Wazirpur is located within the East Delhi election district of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha. In total, Delhi has 70 assembly constituencies. Wazirpur will go for general elections in February 2020 along with the other 69 constituencies since the present five year term of the Delhi assembly is closing on 22 February 2020. Wazirpur assembly seat has a total number of 1,63,100 voters comprising of 91181 male voters and 71916 female voters besides 3 third gender electors.

In 1993 elections, INC’s Deep Chand Bandhu became the MLA of this seat by securing 26150 votes. In 1998 elections, he was once again elected for the Delhi assembly from this seat and hence he remained in office for two consecutive terms. In the 2003 elections, Mange Ram Garg of BJP was the winner. In 2008 elections, INC’s Anil Bharadwaj won from this seat and in 2013 elections BJP’s Mahendra Nagpal was sent to the Delhi assembly to represent this seat. Before AAP grabbed the seat in 2015 elections, INC and BJP were taking turns to win from the Wazirpur assembly constituency.
