The House of Representatives
Four of the five members of the ‘Samosa Caucus’ win seats in the US elections – a complete victory rests on Kamala Harris’ shoulders. Raja Krishnamoorthi, Pramila Jayapal, Roh Khanna and Amri Bera have been re-elected to the house of representatives.
In fact, the term Samosa Caucus was coined by Krishnamoorthi for Indian-American lawmakers.

A Democrat candidate from Illinois, Krishnamoorthi defeated his opponent Preston Nelson from Libertarian Party by 41.8%.
Krishnamoorthi was born in New Delhi, while his parents are from Tamil Nadu. He has been a representative of Illinois’ 8th congressional district since 2017. He also serves on the House Oversight Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Pramila Jayapal
Jayapal won from Washington State defeating her Republican Party rival Craig Keller with a huge margin of 69.6%. With the win, Jayapal will be securing her congressional seat for the third consecutive term.

Jayapal, who was born in Chennai, was also the first Indian-American woman to be elected to the US House of Representatives in 2016. She is known for her strong views and opinions on Indian politics.

Roh Khanna
Democratic party member Roh Khanna defeated another Indian American – Republican Ritesh Tandon – in the California constituency by 74.6%. Khanna, for whom it was the third consecutive Congressional win, had also raised $3.6 million for his election campaign.

Khanna was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was also a part of former US President Barack Obama’s administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US Department of Commerce.
Ami Bera

Ami Bera has been the U.S. Representative for California's 7th congressional district since 2013. The California-born Bera is also the longest serving Indian-American in the Congress. He secured his win this year by defeating Republican candidate Buzz Paterson.
Senate wins
Jenifer Rajkumar
Indian-american lawyer Jenifer Rajkumar won her seat in the New York State Assembly. A Democrat, the New York-born Rajkumar defeated her Republican rival Giovanni Perna. The 38-year old also became the first South Asian woman to be elected to the New York State Assembly. The Stanford graduate is also a professor at the City University of New York.
Niraj Antani
In the state of Ohio, Antani created history by becoming the first Indian-American to win a senate seat. The 29-year old Republican and currently the State Representative, defeated Mark Fogel of the Democratic Party.

Having been first elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2014 at just 23, the Miami-born Antani was also one of the youngest state lawmakers in the US.
