Indian smartphone companies could make a comeback due to the anti-China sentiment in the country.
A majority of India’s smartphone market is dominated by Chinese companies.
Micromax has revealed that the company will soon launch a smartphone in the country.
Indian smartphone companies are nowhere to be found these days, but they could soon make a comeback in the Indian market. The rising anti-China sentiment has created the demand for smartphones, TVs, and other items owned and made by Indian companies.

Due to immense competition from Chinese smartphone makers, companies like Micromax, Lava and Karbonn which were immensely popular a few years ago, are virtually non-existent now.

However, Micromax has announced that it is re-entering the Indian smartphone industry with new smartphones in the near future. Other companies like Lava and Karbonn could also make a comeback, but there are no details in this regard yet.

Here’s a look at some of the Indian smartphone companies that could make a comeback:

Micromax Indian Mobile Company

Micromax Indian Mobile Company — Micromax
Micromax was founded in early 2000 by Rahul Sharma and Rajesh Agarwal and was among the biggest budget phone sellers in India. The company had launched the YU brand in 2014 which had the official Cyanogen OS rights in India.
Micromax, which mainly launched budget devices started losing market share after the entry of Xiaomi and other Chinese smartphone makers.
Micromax has revealed that it will soon launch an affordable smartphone with premium features in the country.

Lava mobile

Lava mobile — Lava
Lava was founded in 2009 by a group of four people and had operations in several countries including India, Russia, Nepal, and Pakistan. Like Micromax, Lava also focused on the budget segment and offered affordable entry level devices.
Increased competition from Chinese companies pushed Lava into financial troubles in 2018 and the company was forced to delay payments to vendors and employees.

Karbonn Mobiles

Karbonn Mobiles — Karbonn
Karbonn Mobiles was founded in 2009 as a joint venture between Bengaluru-based United Telelinks Ltd. and New Delhi-based Jaina Marketing Pvt. Ltd. It offered feature phones, smartphones and tablets.
The company was also affected by the entry of cheap Chinese smartphones in the country and hasn’t launched a phone for quite some time now.

Lyf

Lyf — Lyf
Lyf was launched by Reliance Retail during the initial days of Reliance Jio to produce affordable 4G smartphones in the country. In May 2016, the company had become the fifth largest smartphone maker and second largest 4G LTE phone seller in India.
Once other smartphone makers started launching 4G phones, the company stopped announcing new phones.

Intex Technologies

Intex Technologies — Intex
Intex Technologies was founded in 1996 by Narendra Bansal. It offers smartphones, LED TVs and other consumer electronics and accessories.
While Intex is still active in other segments, it has not launched a smartphone in quite a while after its sales were disrupted by the entry of Chinese smartphones in the country.
