Elon Musk wants you to call a tweet an 'x' as Twitter rebrands

Twitter's iconic blue bird logo is out as it rebrands to the "X" app, and it turns out "tweets" are out too.

Twitter owner Elon Musk said posts on the platform should take on a new name — "x's" — consistent with the transition to "X."

"So now that Twitter has been rebranded to , what are tweets called now?" Sawyer Merritt, who seemingly suggested the new X logo, asked on Monday.

"x's," Musk replied.

Musk has hinted at his plans for an "everything app" called X for months, and the rebrand marks another step in that direction.

Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino described their vision for the expanded app in a series of tweets — or, rather, "x's" — on Sunday.

"X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we're just beginning to imagine," she wrote.

Twitter ushered in its new image pretty quietly, projecting the new X logo onto its San Francisco headquarters in the middle of the night.

Its signature blue bird has been replaced by the new logo — which looks suspiciously like a generic Unicode character. Musk says the image "certainly will be refined" down the road.

And that's not all there is to do: The blue button to make a post still says "Tweet," the search bar still reads "Search Twitter," and the URL for the website is still Twitter.com.

That's all to say, it may be a little while until "X" and "x's" become part of the common vernacular.
