At present, users will get 30 minutes to edit their tweet once it has been published. To prevent misuse, Twitter has said that an icon will be added to tweets to indicate that they have been edited. In addition to this, users will be able to click on the label to view the edit history and the past versions of the tweet.
“For context, the time limit and version history play an important role here. They help protect the integrity of the conversation and create a publicly accessible record of what was said,” Twitter said in its blog post.
Who will be able to edit tweets?
Twitter has said that the edit button will be available to Twitter Blue users, the company’s subscription service. However, this feature will not be limited to paid users and regular users will be able to use the feature later.
“Later this month, we’ll be expanding Edit Tweet access to Twitter Blue subscribers. As part of their subscription, they receive early access to features and help us test them before they come to Twitter,” Twitter said.
“We’ll also be paying close attention to how the feature impacts the way people read, write, and engage with Tweets,” the company added.
