Tablet and hybrid laptop markets might not be on fire, but things are picking up slowly. AMD has just infused some new processors into its A-series and E-series of mobile Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) line-up. With this launch, the company plans to increase its market share in the industry and push sales further, in tandem with its OEM partners. The new APUs will cover Elite Mobility, the Mainstream section and the Elite performance segment.

So what does it mean for users?
AMD had been bringing cheaper yet fast processors in the past and the current ones would be no different. Keeping the costs low, the latest line-up will have a CPU and a GPU on the same chip. This will enable the OEM partners to keep the tablet or the hybrid laptops size to the smallest and the device weight to a bare minimum, which most of us want. But more than the weight, what we want to be bettered is the battery juice. It would be splendid if it lasts a few days, if not a week. Well, we could not have endless battery life with these APUs, but they do use less power and will help extend the battery life. Graphics will also get a boost with them and one can now watch full HD movies and play graphic-hungry games with ease.

At the launch, HP, Asus, Acer and Lenovo showcased their respective hybrids and tablets which are currently up for sale or are going to hit the stores soon. Most of the devices are priced around Rs 20,000-30,000 (a few of them are a little more expensive). This just heats things up in the portable segment, which was getting a bit mundane lately. Inside information says we are going to see some more companies picking up the AMD APUs, which should stir things up further.
