Hyundai is mulling to bring back its iconic car Santro, which had earned a huge presence in the Indian market and was phased out in the tail end of 2014.
Santro, which was launched in 1998, had become a game changer for Hyundai back then as it had sold 13.6 lakh units in the domestic market and 5.35 lakh units in international market.
Hyundai Santro posted around 1.9 million units of lifetime sales in the domestic and export markets in 16 year-run in India.
Now, the Hyundai Motor India is all set it bring back but the project is under tight wraps.
ET quoted sources that thenew Santro is under development in South Korea and will come to India in around two years.
Sources told ET the present new Santro project was under tight wraps with vendor sources saying it was "too early to talk about".
As per reports, the new Santro will take on its rivals such as Maruti.
When Santro was phased out it sold nearly 2,500 units per month. Santro, which was globally known as the Hyundai Atos Prime, replaced it with i10 in most markets across the world in 2007.
