Evangelical pastor Robert Jeffress, a longtime Christian supporter of Trump, called on his followers to accept Biden's victory

• In an op-ed for Fox News published earlier this week, Dallas pastor Robert Jeffress called on his followers to "pray for" Biden despite his victory being a "bitter pill to swallow."

An evangelist pastor and loyal Trump supporter has accepted Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election and called on his followers to "pray for" the future president.

In an op-ed for Fox News that was published earlier this week, Dallas pastor Robert Jeffress called Biden's win last weekend a "bitter pill to swallow," but added that if he succeeds, "we all succeed."

"Here is our chance to show that Christians are not hypocrites. We serve a God who remains on His throne, sovereignly reigning over every square inch of this vast universe," he wrote, according to Fox News.

Jeffress, who is the senior pastor of one of Texas' biggest megachurches, added that when Biden becomes president, "we should commend him for the things he does right," but also "condemn the things he does wrong."

"And above all, we must pray fervently for our president. If President Biden succeeds, we all succeed. May God bless Joe Biden, and may God bless the United States of America," he wrote.

Jeffress has been one of Trump's most vocal evangelical supporters, frequently visiting the White House over the last four years.

The president has previously called Jeffress "a terrific guy, a terrific man," who has stood with him "from the very beginning," according to NBC News.

Jeffress' recent words in the Fox News column are a stark contrast to what the pastor said in the days following the election, where he tweeted in defense of Trump's right to contest the results.

"As I said on Lou Dobbs show Friday: 'The only way to unify our country is to protect not only the right to vote but the right to contest an election. President @realDonaldTrump has EVERY right to contest this election,'" Jeffress tweeted on November 9.

Jeffress leads the First Baptist Dallas, the biggest megachurch in Texas. Trump has a large following of evangelical Christians, a majority of which voted him into the White House in 2016. While Trump did not win the 2020 election,

Many stuck by Trump during the 2020 election — with more than 80% of evangelical Christians voting for him according to an AP poll — but not enough to guarantee him a second term.

Trump has not yet conceded and has continued to make baseless claims of voter fraud.
