In true Google form, Google Fit is intuitive and user-friendly. Available on both Android and iOS, it compiles information from other health-centered apps and fitness trackers, giving you an overview of your daily and weekly fitness and sleep activities.

You don't need a smartwatch to use Google Fit, though if you do it'll add workouts to the app automatically rather than having to input them yourself. Here's everything you need to know.

What is Google Fit?

Google Fit is a fitness tracking app available for Android and iOS devices. It's designed to act as a virtual coach to help you achieve a healthier and more active life.

In the app, you can earn Heart Points, an activity goal created by Google Fit in collaboration with the American Heart Association, by completing moderate to intense activities.

The app also offers actionable tips to achieve daily activity and sleep goals, and you can use it to measure and track your progress. Google Fit can be used in tandem with other fitness apps and devices.

How to use Google Fit

The Google Fit app has three main sections: Home, Journal, and Profile. Here's how to use each one.

Home

The Home screen is your day and week at a glance, with the daily number of Heart Points earned and Steps completed at the top. When you've achieved your daily goals, both circles will be completed. Directly underneath your Heart Points and Steps are calories burned, miles traveled, and move minutes.

The Home Page also shows how often you've achieved your daily goals in the last seven days, your progress toward your weekly target, sleep data (if you have a connected sleep tracking app or device), your recent workouts, and more.

Quick tip: You'll also find YouTube playlists (everything from dance workouts to guided meditations) and articles by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and World Health Organization.

Journal

This tab shows activities, which you can add manually using the plus + icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Activities are also added automatically by connected devices (like Wear OS or Apple Watch) and apps.
