These processors are designed by Apple and made by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, according to the report.

The iPads have used Apple's Thunderbolt connector in testing, the people said, which is the same port on the newest Macs. Thunderbolt will make the iPads faster at syncing data than the the USB-C ports used in the current models.

Apple didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment and a company spokesperson declined to comment to Bloomberg.

The last time the iPad Pro was updated was in March 2020, at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The model range came with an improved processor, support for the Magic Keyboard and mouse, and a lidar scanner next to the camera.
