Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk could still make a cameo in the upcoming video game "Cyberpunk 2077," but early players have yet to find him.

Despite a report with images that show a man in the game who bears a resemblance to Musk, that's not him, a "Cyberpunk 2077" representative confirmed to Business Insider.

Though a Musk cameo in the game hasn't been formally announced, many suspect it's likely to happen: He's a notorious video game fan who has hinted publicly at such a cameo in the past, and his partner Grimes plays a character in the game. Moreover, Tesla's upcoming Cybertruck - a not-so-subtle homage to the cyberpunk genre - could also appear in the game.

"Cyberpunk 2077" doesn't launch until Thursday, December 10, but some reviewers have already begun playing it and at least one thought they'd spotted the Musk cameo.

The man in the background appears during an opening scene if players choose the corporate player path, CNET reports. "At first the cyberware on the fellow's face disguises his Muskness a little," the report says, "but as he turns to the side and you see his profile he becomes unmistakably Musk."

Though it's entirely possible that Musk appears in "Cyberpunk 2077," this man was not intended to be that cameo, a representative for "Cyberpunk 2077" told Business Insider.

"Cyberpunk 2077" is scheduled to launch on Thursday, December 10, for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One (it will also run on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and Series X through backwards compatibility). It's made by Polish development studio CD Projekt Red, which previously produced the wildly popular "Witcher" game series.
