Sadly, it is also home to plenty of architectural failures - as demonstrated by the shortlist of buildings nominated for the Carbuncle Cup, an annual award that is given to the UK's worst designed building by architecture site BD.

This year's shortlist is comprised of six hideous buildings that fall victim to "contextual incongruity, myopic cladding, woeful detailing, mind-numbing mediocrity, clumsy massing, incoherent form and ... poor planning," according to BD.
