You may be out of luck if you have an older iPhone or iPad - Here are the devices that can't run iOS 11
Apple
The company did not make a version of the new iOS, dubbed iOS 11, for the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, or fourth-generation iPad. Instead, those devices will be stuck with iOS 10, which Apple released last year.
Newer devices will be able to run the new operating system.
Apple's decision to exclude earlier generations of devices isn't a surprise. The company often excludes older devices form running new versions of its operating systems. It released the iPhone 5 and the fourth-generation iPad in 2012 and the iPhone 5c in 2013. And those were the oldest generation of Apple phone and tablets to support iOS 10.
With iOS 11, Apple is dropping support for 32-bit chips and apps written for such processors. Apple moved to 64-bit chips and apps with the iPhone 5s and the iPad Air, both of which it released in 2013. Thanks to the company's decision to cease support of 32-bit apps, some 180,000 iPhone and iPad apps that hadn't been updated for 64-bit processors won't work on devices running iOS 11.
IOS 11 is bringing a slew of changes to iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices, including a customizable control center for settings, voices for the Siri intelligent assistant that sound less robotic, and ARKit, which is a set of software tools that will allow developers to create augmented-reality apps.
