1. Apple fell over 8% in after-hours trading after earnings results disappointed investors. Though it beat expectations on revenue and EPS, Apple had a huge miss on iPhone sales. It sold 51 million units which was lower than sell-side expectations of 54.7 million.
2. Apple CEO Tim Cook said iPhone 5c demand was "different than we thought."
3. The CEO of Bitcoin exchange BitInstant, Charlie Shrem, was arrested for money laundering. Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss backed his company and say they're "obviously deeply concerned about his arrest."
4. A man who lost his six-year-old daughter on New Year's Eve is suing Uber and the UberX driver who hit her for wrongful death and negligence.
5. Legendary VC Tom Perkins explained, clarified, apologized for, and then stood by his controversial letter where he said that people who criticize the rich were behaving like the Nazis did toward the Jews in World War II. "It's absurd to demonize the rich for being rich and doing what the rich do, which is get richer by creating opportunities for others," he told Bloomberg TV's Emily Chang.
