Android 14 rollout begins with Pixel smartphones – new features, eligible devices and more

Google has finally released Android 14, the latest version of Android, along with the Pixel 8 series, after months of testing at its Made by Google event on Wednesday.

While the Pixel 8 series has been launched with Android 14, several other Pixel devices have also received the stable Android 14 update. Similarly, devices from other smartphone makers will also start receiving Android 14 update in the coming weeks.

In this post, we look at the eligible devices that will receive the Pixel update and some of the new features that the users will get with the new Android version.

Android 14 new features

Lock screen customisations

The Android 14 update brings improved customisation options for lock screens. This includes custom clocks and new lock screen shortcuts. The update will also allow users to customise the font, colours and formats based on their preferences.

AI wallpapers

The Android 14 update also brings AI wallpapers. AI has become quite useful and you will now be able to use AI to create wallpapers for your phone using guided prompts.

HDR images

Android 14 also brings support for HDR images. The Ultra HDR feature will allow you to bring out the best in images, delivering improved shadows, vibrant colours and more.

Data privacy

Keeping data privacy in mind, users will be given improved information whether an app is sharing your information such as locations and more with third-party apps. Users will also have more control over what information they wish to share with other applications.

Health Connect

The Health Connect feature will now be integrated in the settings menu, allowing you to get access to your health and fitness data from other apps at one central place.

Devices from companies like Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi and others will start receiving the Android 14 update in the coming weeks.
